Job Title: Loan Officer I
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Loan Officer I is responsible for evaluating, processing, and administering consumer, commercial, real estate, and other credit-related loan applications. This position develops new business opportunities, analyzes creditworthiness, ensures compliance with lending policies, and maintains strong customer relationships while managing a loan portfolio.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review, process, close, and administer loan applications and proposals.
  • Interview applicants and obtain required information and documentation.
  • Analyze financial statements, credit reports, collateral, and property evaluations to determine loan feasibility.
  • Correspond with applicants, creditors, and other parties to resolve questions and obtain additional information.
  • Approve loans within authorized limits or submit recommendations to the appropriate approval authority.
  • Ensure loan documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with bank policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and manage loan portfolio performance.
  • Develop new lending and deposit relationships through business development and marketing efforts.
  • Identify potential loan markets and cultivate prospective customers.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain professional relationships with clients.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or
  • One to two years of related banking, lending, sales, or financial services experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, professional publications, and regulations.
  • Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and other business communications.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, management, and the public.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate interest, percentages, commissions, discounts, and related financial figures.
  • Ability to apply basic algebraic and geometric concepts.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to evaluate information, solve practical problems, and make sound decisions in situations with limited standardization.

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in banking databases, spreadsheet applications, word processing software, and related business systems.
